> FREE MINDS FILM — teaching independent filmmakers to make an impact

Many attempts at education are stymied not because of a lack of intelligence on the part of the student but because of a lack of passion. What’s even more tragic is that many students and others do have passion for a given topic, but that passion may never surface. The problem is the topic is presented badly, and because of that the would-be learner regards it as inscrutable, irrelevant or just boring.

Some people have been fortunate enough to have a special something—maybe a teacher, a book, or a film—that sparks passion for learning. Once that passion is ignited, it propels us to devour topics we never thought we’d enjoy. It propels us to read books, attend panels, engage in discussions, and so on.

Instead of thinking of enjoyment and education as separate pursuits, we combine them. The moving-picture format is the most accessible format, and we use moving-picture story telling to whet the appetite. Then we create educational materials and events to feed the appetite.

In short, films and videos are not a replacement for deeper investigation. They can actually serve as the catalyst for deeper investigation.

And what do we hope people will investigate more deeply?

Our goal is to help people reach their potential. We want to help inspire people to pursue lifelong learning and lifelong improvement.

In order to reach their potential, people must be free to pursue activities that help them reach their potential. That is why we support classically liberal principles such as free expression, open inquiry, and non aggression. Once people enjoy the freedom to pursue their potential, they then need the inspiration and knowledge to pursue lifelong self improvement.

Our past moving-picture projects have addressed concepts like gratitude, free expression, and antifragility. We deepen and extend the impact of moving-picture projects with various educational activities including workshops, seminars, and impact campaigns.
